Aurangabad has 3,405 medium and small scale units generating about 36,871 jobs with an investment of Rs.404.86 crore. It is estimated that by 2020, these units will grow to 9,000, generating about 95,000 jobs with an investment of Rs.1,050 crore. Aurangabad is an industrialised area, with 5 established industrial estates at Waluj, Paithan, Chikalthana, Chittegaon and Shendre.
The VW Group is adding one more production line at the Aurangabad plant for rolling out a new SUV by 2013. Sterlite Technologies, an arm of the Vedanta Group, has acquired 50 acre in Shendre industrial estate near Aurangabad for Rs.9,700 crore LCD manufacturing project.
