35% of the industrial output, 23%
of industrial units and 33% of
industrial workforce of Punjab. It
houses host of MSMEs catering
to cycle & cycle parts, auto
components, industrial fasteners,
machine tools, garments, etc.
Ludhiana is Asia’s largest hub
for bicycle manufacturing and
produces more than 50% of India’s
bicycle consumption of over 10
million per annum.
Ludhiana also
produces 60% of India’s tractor
parts. The Empowered Committee
on Industries, Punjab, gave its nod
to a Special Economic Zone for
Ludhiana covering 2,500 acre and
a Textile Park at a cost of Rs. 1,800
crore. Quark Inc. has proposed a
SEZ in the Jalandhar-Ludhiana-
Hoshiarpur corridor. |
